Litaniae Sanctorum

December 23, 2010

This is a beautiful thing to listen to especially when you understand the words as they are spoken in Latin.  I think the images in the video lends itself to emotional contemplation of the many saints that are being evoked as it helps one to recall that we are 1) surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12:1) and 2) that we are all members of the body of Christ. (Romans 12:5).

On a personal note, it is very moving for me to see the images and hear the names called out because I have read the stories of their lives many times and I have read their own words many, many times, I feel as if I know them on a very personal level.  It’s like recalling the names, faces, and stories of my family and friends.

The saints are there to pray for us and with us.  Invoke their help.  They wait to help you more than any friend on earth.

If you care to look at it, the words are presented here in three languages.
